The Client
Northamptonshire Police is a forward-looking organisation that is keen to reduce its carbon footprint and energy and water costs.
The force provides services to 16 towns across an area of 914 square miles with a staff of over 2,700 in multiple stations, offices and centres.
Northants Police sought the expert advice of SaveMoneyCutCarbon through its water utilities supplier Anglian Water Business (AWB).
The Brief
It wanted to identify the best and quickest ways of reducing energy and water costs across the force while also shrinking the carbon footprint. SaveMoneyCutCarbon is the strategic energy and water efficiency partner with AWB.
The force needed detailed surveys and installation plans for the replacement of aged and inefficient lighting as well as old water fittings like taps and shower heads that did not meet recommended WRAS flow rates.
The Solution
The initial efficiency project was focused on upgrading the existing lights and water services in five police sites.
SaveMoneyCutCarbon’s Consultative Sales team deployed its experienced efficiency surveyors to complete a full review of all the sites with detailed reports on costs, savings and schedules delivered to the police facilities team.
The full-service solution included product specification and supply, project management, installation and commissioning as well as safe removal of waste for WEEE Recycling.
Both survey and installation teams are fully DBS checked to meet police requirements.
The installation team worked closely with Northants Police to ensure minimum disruption to working environments while retrofitting more than 800 LED lights, that offer reductions in electricity consumption of up to 80% compared to traditional lighting with lower maintenance costs and a long working life of up to 50,000 hours.
Challenges
Given the 24/7 environment, accessibility was challenging as the team had to work in offices while minimising disruption to staff and operations. This required clever scheduling of tasks and the much-appreciated support of the staff.
