Nene Park provides around 2 million visitors a year with a range of opportunities for relaxation and recreation in a wide variety of landscapes and wildlife habitats.
Its vision is to be the region’s favourite park, providing a permanent haven for heritage and wildlife and a wide choice of recreational activities for the people of Peterborough and the wider community.
Nene Park Trust is the registered charity which looks after Nene Park in its entirety. Established in 1988, the trust looks after all maintenance, coordination of the Park’s activity programme and administration of commercial properties in the park.
The Brief
Nene Park Trust recognises its role in protecting the environment and is committed to reducing its carbon footprint. It supports its teams, partners and tenants to work in a sustainable way guided by its comprehensive Environmental Policy and Action Plan.
The EV charger project Is an important element in the trust’s target to be net zero by 2030 and develop a plan to achieve net positive by 2040. The trust measures and monitors its carbon footprint through its Investors in the Environment membership, where it has received Green accreditation (the highest level).
Nene Park was introduced by one of SaveMoneyCutCarbon’s Value Added Referrers, Artisan Electrical in Cambridge. Founder Jordan Farley is a popular YouTuber who posts about EV charging and electrical and EV infrastructure.
The Solution
The trust’s green strategy includes choosing suppliers who have an environmental policy and accreditations, one reason for its choice of SaveMoneyCutCarbon as full-service supplier of EV charging services.
The EV charger project will help to reinforce the trust’s policy of minimising impacts of transport, which includes staff travel and transport of equipment for essential work around the park. The trust aims to seek alternatives to the use of fossil fuels and encourage staff, volunteers, partners and visitors to use sustainable transport options to visit the park.
The trust has a target to Increase use of bikes and electric vehicles around the park with 80% of all journeys by electric vehicle or bike by 2030.
SaveMoneyCutCarbon offered a concise solution that met the client’s requirements and it also supported the principal contractor for the new car park in the specification that had to be met to support the EV chargers. This included full compliance with new building regulations for the car park.
Following a full EV charger site survey, SaveMoneyCutCarbon specified the supply and installation of 13 Alfen Eve Double Pro-Line EV Chargers providing 26 sockets with Monta Back Office Software for payment management.

The Eve Double Pro-line is Alfen’s flagship smart solution for the semi-public environment, designed for integration and maximum charging speed with cutting-edge and sophisticated smart functions. It’s robust, safe and reliable with a rugged case for high usage and regular user changeovers.
It houses two sockets, with optional load balancing across both. The user interfaces includes a colour screen with logo upload facility. An integrated RFID reader supports user identification and a MID-meter enables financial settlement. Internet connection is via LTE/Ethernet, with data available via the chosen third party management system provider.
Nene Park Trust has recently invested in solar panels to helps reduce costs and reliance on the Grid, and is now investigating the potential for further savings with battery storage, water efficiencies and LED lighting.
