Improving Efficiency with a Water Focused Eco MOT

At SaveMoneyCutCarbon our experience over the past decade has shown that water efficiency can have a big effect on annual water and energy bills. For instance, eco taps deliver water savings of typically between 50 – 70%, while ultra-low flow toilets can reduce water usage by 75%.

Here’s how we helped one of our customers, Christchurch Community Centre in Cambridgeshire reduce water costs.

Water Focused Eco MOT Retrofit Solutions & Further Recommendations

David Ball, our technical lead on the Water Reduction Team visited Christchurch Community Centre to review where savings could be made on bills, energy and CO2.

While on site, David installed some non-intrusive retrofit aerators and toilet displacement bags to immediately reduce water consumption. These interventions delivered an instant and tangible impact on water usage. Additionally, we found scope for significant savings with further upgrades.

The audit interventions have achieved a 26% water reduction, 46% energy reduction and 42% carbon reduction across the 25 assets upgraded.

Annual savings already achieved:

Money Saved £225
Water Reduced 29,640 Liters
Energy Reduced 460 kWh
Carbon Saved 0.10 tonnes

Recommended upgrades

The SaveMoneyCutCarbon team also identified more potential savings that could be achieved with further upgrades. Taps, showers and urinals could be made more efficient and there was a leaking toilet. The hand dryers are also very inefficient – with 72% savings achievable. There is also scope for savings with a rainwater harvesting system.

Annual savings could be:

  • 270

    £ saved

  • 0.03

    tonnes

  • 72,696

    litres

  • 645

    kWh

What our client thought:

Geoffrey Harper, Chairman Christchurch Recreation Ground Charity:
“Your engineers that attended were very helpful, updating all the tap water flows and installing water bags in our WCs which will reduce our overall water consumption. They also found a couple of small leaks during the audits which our normal engineer was not aware of.

“Our Community Centre is committed to sustainability and our building is heated by air source pumps with underfloor heating. We have also invested having LED lighting throughout the centre and have solar panels with battery back-up to reduce our carbon emissions. I would like to express my sincere thanks for your support and believe the service you are providing will be of great value to other organisations like ours.”
