What is the best way to deep clean a washing machine?

Just as your clothes need washing, your washing machine also needs some TLC to keep your clothes in tip top condition.

There’s inevitably going to be some build up of dirt, bacteria, soap and mould in your washing machine but we’ve got you covered with a simple solution! There’s no need for chemicals or cleaning solutions, all you need is the ecoegg Washing Machine Detox Tablets.

How to clean your washing machine in an eco-friendly way

Follow our easy cleaning routine for your washing machine…

Clean out the washing machine drawer

Firstly, begin with the drawer. If you can remove your drawer then do so, but either way, fill up a bowl with some hot soapy water and use a cloth to wipe away any mould or dirt. The corners may be tricky to clean so grab an old toothbrush (we told you they’d come in handy!), to help leave no space untouched. Don’t forget to wipe down the sides and bottom of the drawer too.

Clean the washing machine door and drum seal

Washing machines are warm and dark, the perfect conditions for bacteria to grow and cause odours, which is why it’s so important to stay on top of cleaning. This is especially true if you use washing detergent and fabric conditioners as the excess builds up and leaves residue in the machine and on your clothes.

So, simply grab another bowl of hot soapy water and scrub the door and drum seal with your  cloth. Make sure you peel back the seal to give it a thorough cleanse inside. However, if the bacteria is being stubborn then you may need to get an eco-friendly mould remover to do the job.

Don’t forget about the outside too

Using soapy water or multi-surface anti-bacterial spray (we love the OceanSaver anti-bac spray), all you need to do is wipe down your washing machine sides for a sparkly clean look.

Use ecoegg Washing Machine Detox Tablets

We recommend giving your washing machine a clean every month. The hardest part is remembering to do it and making it a habit, but with ecoegg Detox Tablets, it really couldn’t be easier!

Get to the root of the problem with ecoegg Detox Tablets which can reach all the awkward places that you can’t even see, like the drum and pipes, to give your machine a deep clean and remove any nasty odours. It’s also vital you undertake this process before you use your ecoegg Laundry Egg, to start afresh!

Top tip: although doing your laundry on a cool wash is great for the planet, putting a hot wash on (about 90 degrees), once a month with the ecoegg Washing Machine Detox Tablets will eliminate any dirt or bacteria.

Switch to an ecoegg Laundry Egg

Switching to an ecoegg Laundry Egg will prevent the build up of residue and bacteria. The natural mineral pellets completely replace detergent and fabric conditioner to clean your clothes,  chemical free. One egg will last for 70 washes and then all you need to do is top it up with fresh pellets.

These amazing little white and grey pellets work by lifting the dirt from your clothes, breaking it up and washing it away, leaving significantly less residue than traditional detergents.

This easy sustainable switch for your home will save the planet up to 40 bottles of plastic a year and save you the hassle of having to buy weekly detergents. They’re naturally scented too so you won’t be sacrificing a single thing, other than unnecessary plastic!

Find out more about why the ecoegg Laundry Egg is an easy sustainable switch for your home.

Although an ecoegg Laundry Egg will drastically minimise the bacterial residue from the detergents, it’s still important to cleanse your washing machine to ensure your clothes are as clean as can be, and your appliance lasts for longer.

There are a few more hassle-free things you can do to help…

  • Always leave the washing machine door open when you’re not using it, to give it an air-out and prevent any humidity and bacterial growth.
  • Remove your wet clothes from the washing machine as soon as they’re done to also prevent any bacterial growth.
  • If you do use fabric conditioner or laundry detergent, don’t use any more than you need, otherwise you’ll only leave even more residue on your clothes and your washing machine. With an ecoegg, you don’t have to worry about any of this.
  • Don’t overload your washing machine to prevent any clogging in the pipes and drains. Follow our cleaning routine and make your life easier by switching to ecoegg today!
