We picked up this excellent infographic (below) showing sustainability goals and strategies among mid-sized businesses in UK, courtesy of Grant Thornton, this week.
It depicts data gathered from 200 senior executives in public and private sector organisations in the UK with a turnover from £250 million to £1 billion for their views on sustainability.
It’s well worth a full view but some key points are that just over half of CEOs polled take personal responsibility for sustainability goals and the top five areas for tactical sustainability are:
- Operations (87%)
- IT (78%)
- Finance (76%)
- Risk (76%)
- Supply chain (70%).
The sales function came bottom at 49% and more than half of businesses polled (57%) were not using external verification of their sustainability efforts to ensure accuracy, balance and complete reporting. More info here.
The infographic illuminates that there is more work to do in a wide range of companies, both in sustainability strategy and internal education as pressures from both UK government and European Union increase. The practical commercial benefits of sustainability are also a core element of our Corporate Social Responsibility work with clients.
